To the Stars

The term ‘Catamorphosis’ brings together catastrophe and metamorphosis to form a contemporary concept of reinvention. This musical counterpart to the ‘phoenix rising from the ashes’ was composed in 2020 by Anna Thorvaldsdóttir, who was born in Iceland in 1977. “Perhaps, somewhere between the natural and the unnatural, between utopia and dystopia, we can gain a perspective and find a balance in and with the world around us.” This hope is also shared by Max Richter’s self-contained New Classical style. “Cosmology” blends elements of ambient sound with the sonic power of the organ, celebrated by Anna Lapwood. The orchestra is finally called upon for excerpts from the astrological sonic splendour of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” suite, also featuring Anna Lapwood.
