Encouragement from Tehran

A new work by Sara Abazari from Iran! Given the extreme challenges currently facing the people of Iran, this work fills us with joy even without having heard it yet! Ever since Sara Abazari presented such a brief yet striking work during Holy Week 2023 as a musical commentary on Haydn’s biblical paraphrase ‘The Seven Last Words’, one has longed to discover more of her music. Alongside her, Leonard Bernstein, supported by the fantastic Russian-Canadian violinist Maria Ioudenitch, will present a moving plea for love in such troubled times with his violin concerto based on Plato’s “Symposium”.
Richard Strauss would certainly agree with this, especially as he often championed the works of his colleagues personally. Nietzsche’s “Zarathustra”, in the opulent late-Romantic sound that Strauss tailored specifically for it, makes a fine addition to any symphony concert.
