The instrument of the year 2025 - the voice: choral concerts at the RSB
The voice is the ‘Instrument of the Year’ 2025, and the RSB is dedicating a series of impressive choral concerts to it in the 2025/26 season. Ten concerts are planned throughout the season, celebrating the diversity and expressive power of the voice in all its facets - from monumental choral works to festive and familiar formats.
Highlights include the traditional New Year's Eve concerts, moving sing-along and family concerts as well as numerous projects with the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the Rundfunk-Kinderchor des Händel-Gymnasiums. Outstanding vocal soloists such as Amanda Majeski, Agnieszka Rehlis, Kostas Smoriginas, Vera-Lotte Boecker, Christina Daletska, Benjamin Bruns, Jordan Shanahan, Ewa Vesin, Monika Bohinec, Carlos Cardoso, Riccardo Zanellato, Victoria Randem, Anna Alàs i Jové, Kieran Carrel and Roderick Williams bring their voices to the programmes and provide emotional highlights.
Under the direction of renowned conductors such as Edward Gardner, Frank Strobel, Steffen Tast, Vladimir Jurowski, Oksana Lyniv and Simon Halsey, masterpieces of the choral literature will be performed: Karol Szymanowski's haunting ‘Stabat mater’, film music by Ennio Morricone, classical Christmas carols, Beethoven's monumental 9th Symphony, Brahms' “Schicksalslied”, Verdi's powerful “Messa da Requiem” and Mendelssohn Bartholdy's inspiring oratorio “Paulus”. The Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie is also involved as a partner.
The choral concerts of the 25/26 season invite you to experience the voice in its full range - as an instrument of emotion, community and artistic inspiration. Whether festive, contemplative, dramatic or captivating: the choral concerts present a programme that impressively showcases the fascination and power of singing and ensures unforgettable musical experiences.
