Founded in 2002, the RSB Orchestra Academy for young string players has since enabled students and graduates of the disciplines of violin, viola, cello, and double bass, who are not older than 26 years, to gain experience in orchestral playing for two years.
In doing so, they are not only supported by the entire circle of colleagues, but are individually looked after by mentors, who assist them with advice, deeds and constructive criticism in order to allow them to grow cautiously into the everyday life of an orchestral musician.
RSB receives applications from many countries of the world for the 13 seats in the academy. The best candidates qualify as scholarship holders of the academy in an audition and soon enrich the RSB with their personalities and their skills. They complete rehearsals, recordings, and concerts like their regular colleagues and work out an excellent basis for their future work as a professional musician. Many former scholarship holders will later find their permanent job in the RSB or other notable orchestras. The academy time for them is an important step towards the future area.
