Volkmar Weiche - Associate Principal Cello

Volkmar Weiche attended the specialized music school in Dresden from 1979 to 1983. He then studied at the Hochschule für Musik “Carl Maria von Weber” in Dresden from 1983 to 1987. During this time, he participated in courses led by Erkki Rautio, Nathaniel Rosen, and Michael Sanderling, among others. In 1986, Volkmar Weiche began his professional career as a substitute cellist at the Dresden Philharmonic.

Since 1988, he has been a cellist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin (RSB), and since 2001, he has served as the principal cellist in the RSB. He also performs as a solo cellist in the Kammerorchester Berlin, the New Berlin Chamber Orchestra, and the New Potsdam Chamber Orchestra. In addition, Volkmar Weiche is involved in various chamber music projects, including the cello quartet “Just Four Cellos.”

Since 1999, he has been a lecturer and teacher with the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie, the youth patron orchestra of the RSB.
