Klaus Lederer

Born in 1974 in Mecklenburg, Dr. Klaus Lederer spent his childhood and early youth in Frankfurt an der Oder.

After the end of the GDR, he became involved in left-wing youth associations and, since 1992, in the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS).

His studies in law up to his doctorate in law at the Faculty of Law of the Humboldt University in Berlin, his work in the PDS and for it in local politics filled his 1990s. In December 2005, Klaus Lederer was elected state chair of the LEFT party in Berlin. He remained at the head of the state association until December 2016.

From 2003 to January 2017, Dr Lederer was a member of the Left parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, the parliament of the federal state of Berlin, where he was the spokesperson on legal policy for the parliamentary group DIE LINKE.

Since December 2016, Dr Klaus Lederer has been Mayor and Senator for Culture and Europe in Berlin.
