Man and his Environment
Under the heading “Man and his Environment”, the second RSB season with principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski will focus on nature and the environment in its programming. Like music, an experience of nature can also offer a beneficial balance to the everyday, and so RSB audiences will be introduced to the interplay of nature, natural environments and music for a season. Outer and inner landscapes, natural idylls, and also the destruction of nature by mankind all play a part. The many facets of nature, the environment and associated human emotions are echoed in the diversity of the programmes, being reflected in such different works as Schumann’s “Spring Symphony”, the Strauss walz “The Blue Danube”, Mahler’s “Song of the Earth”, Debussy’s “La Mer”, Haydn’s “The Seasons”, Beethoven’s “Pastorale”, Strauss’s “Alpine Symphony”, Fazıl Say’s piano concerto “Water” or Brett Dean’s “Pastoral Symphony”.
In addition to a musical experience of nature, activities outside the concert hall are being offered to audiences as well, including walks with birdsong, tours through parks, or meditation to explore the inner world. These and other offers are being presented in cooperation with the season’s partners NABU, WWF, Humboldt Forum, Museum of Natural History, State Museums of Berlin, and Foundation Prussian Palaces and Gardens.
