Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos

Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos conducted the RSB for the first time in 1991 and, from 1994 to 2000, he was responsible for its artistic direction as principal conductor. The conductor of Spanish and German heritage was born in Burgos. Following his first engagement as principal conductor with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, he led the Spanish National Orchestra in Madrid from 1962 to 1978. He was musical director and principal conductor in Düsseldorf, Montreal, of the Vienna Symphoniker and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2001, he was named permanent conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin. Since 2005, he is principal conductor and artistic director of the Dresdner Philharmoniker. As a guest conductor, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos has performed with numerous symphony orchestras in Europe, America, Japan and Israel, and has directed opera performances at leading opera houses throughout the world. He is regularly extended invitations to the most important European festivals. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos has recorded over 100 album releases and has been honored with numerous awards. After his last performance with the RSB in 2004, he returns to the podium of the RSB this season with a work that he has mastered like no one else: Stravinsky’s “Le sacre du printemps”.
